Welcome from Helen Hirst, Interim Chair, David Wilmshurst, Vice Chair of Council of Governors and Mark Chambers, Lead Governor

Thank you for your interest in Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the opportunity to play a critical leadership role as the new Chair of our Board and Council of Governors.   We hope the information on this site helps you learn more about our organisation, our achievements, challenges, ambitions, values and this critical role.

As a Trust we deliver a broad range of healthcare services to more than half a million people, have an annual budget of over £500 million and employ 6,400 staff.  We are large and complex by any measure.   We are proud to be a teaching hospital, actively involved in training the future generation of healthcare professionals. Our affiliation with the renowned Bradford Institute for Health Research, situated at Bradford Royal Infirmary, places us at the forefront of healthcare advancements and allows us to better understand and cater for the needs of our communities.

Our core values of Patients, People, Place, and Partners drive us towards our vision of becoming an “outstanding provider of healthcare, research, and education, as well as a great place to work.” As part of the West Yorkshire Integrated Care System and the Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership, we actively collaborate with our partners to keep people ‘happy and healthy at home’.

We are seeking to appoint a new Chair to lead our Board and Council of Governors. This is an important opportunity for an experienced, visible and proven leader to provide cohesion, clarity, focus and positivity to our Board, Council of Governors and stakeholders.  This is a position that is both challenging and highly rewarding; our new Chair will play a critical role in shaping our Board; building on productive and progressive relationships with our partners and stakeholders across the health and care landscape. A credible and inspiring communicator; you will provide support and challenge as we seek opportunities to further increase our impact and continually improve the experience and wellbeing of our staff and communities.

This is a unique opportunity to bring your significant Board level experience gained in complex and dynamic multi-stakeholder environments, to impact and shape health and social care services for the people of Bradford and the experience of our dedicated staff.  An inclusive leader, you will share our values, bring fresh thinking to our Board and Council of Governors and demonstrate a genuine passion and commitment to our people and places.  We know through experience that diversity of ideas, perspectives and backgrounds create a stronger culture that delivers better outcomes for our communities and we welcome and value all lived experience.
