"This is an opportunity to make your mark in an ambitious environment and to make a major contribution to the future health and well-being of the people of Bradford."

Dr Maxwell Mclean, Chair

Welcome

Dear Candidate

Thank you for your interest in Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and this unique opportunity to play a critical civic leadership role in an exciting city as a Non-Executive Director on our Trust Board. For this appointment we are keen to hear from leaders who understand our local community and have some insight and knowledge of the associated healthcare needs. While previous NHS experience is not essential, we are particularly interested to hear from those who have experience of the public sector or voluntary sectors. Most of all, you will share our values and commitment to the people of Bradford.

Our new Non-Executive Director will join us at a time when we face unprecedented demands created by the COVID-19 pandemic coupled with a significant period of transformation as we work with partners to create a more integrated system of health and care services for our populations.  I hope that you will enjoy finding out more about this fabulous opportunity to provider leadership in one of the North’s most ethnically and culturally diverse cities.

As a Trust we deliver a broad range of healthcare services to around half a million people, we have an annual budget of over £400 million and employ 6,500 staff.  We are large and complex by any measure.   As a teaching hospital we help to train the next generation of healthcare professionals and we are at the forefront of healthcare research and development through the Bradford Institute for Health Research.  This gives us further opportunity to learn and better understand the needs of our population.

I was delighted to be appointed by the Governors as Chair of the Board in 2019 and I am inspired by the energy and commitment of our colleagues in the Trust and in the wider Bradford Health and Care Partnership. Together we are dedicated to transforming the delivery of services to the populations of this dynamic city; seeking to provide sustainable services for the unique future needs of Europe’s youngest city and tackle the health inequalities that we still see within our communities.

As you can see this is an exciting place to be and if you are a compassionate leader with energy and an enquiring mind, we would love for you to consider bringing your experience to provide stretch and challenge to our Board.  This is an opportunity to make your mark in an ambitious environment and to make a major contribution to the future health and well-being of the people of Bradford.

I hope what you learn on this site will prompt further questions and I do encourage you to contact David Heaton, Michelle Shirley or Emma Pickup at GatenbySanderson on 0113 205 6094 to discuss your interest further.

I look forward to meeting you during the process.

 Yours sincerely,

Dr Maxwell Mclean
